Chapel Ridge and Acts of Desperation

Desperate people do desperate things, so they say.  Nowhere is this more apparent than Brian Mertz / Tabb Reese's "truth" campaign in favor of the hideous monstrosity known as Chapel Ridge.  And what is the "truth"?  Well, apparently for Mertz and Reese truth means stealing another company's logo and trying to pawn it off as their own.  That's the truth. It's well documented.  Mertz & Reese are trying to fabricate support for Chapel Ridge, such as misleading websites and a handful of well-placed yard signs reading "Know the Truth," which upon closer inspection are nearly all upon public lands, on the land of the sellers of the property, or on the properties of friends / associates of Mertz and Reese.  That's fabricated support.  Reality?  The reality is that nearly everyone in this area opposes Chapel Ridge, as it will lower the surrounding quality of life and property values.  We know the truth.

Here are some more interesting facts (Chapel Ridge, by the way, conveniently dislikes facts):

Chapel Ridge (by the developer's own study) will create 3,669 new vehicle trips a day.  Do you want 3,669 more cars driving down your street every day?

Another fact: Chapel Ridge is a dense monstrosity. 379 houses crammed onto 143 acres!  Just look at this Google overlay image:

Disgusting, isn't it?

Do everything you can to oppose Chapel Ridge.  Don't let Chapel Ridge destroy the charm of south Platte County.

  2. Seriously, people, email the Missouri Association of Realtors (mary@morealtor.com) and file an ethics complaint against Reese and Mertz --- for logo theft and misleading statements and house pictures on their website and facebook page. It is outrageous they are doing this! Don't let them get away with it!

  3. Two things...I noticed the first post removed by the blog administrator...not sure what it said or the reason for the removal, but we can't follow in their foot steps and delete comments we don't like which is what they are doing on their facebook page.

2nd thing is this has already lowered my quality of life. I moved to this area to get away from neighbors who were too close and to find some peace. Since this has all started, I have lost sleep, lost respect for some neighbors (opposing signs will point you in the right direction), and my little corner of the world that was once peaceful is for the most part gone. It makes my stress level rise as I drive home and see the signs for both sides and until recently a drive home was a happy one, but not anymore. My feeling of this area is not what is use to be and I'm sure as this progresses and more animosity increases then my feeling of "home" will change as it already has, but that won't stop me from fighting for the love I once had.........

  4. I agree w/KSE, you can't remove their negative posts, instead you need to intelligently respond to them and believe me there will always be an intelligent response to whatever they may say in support of their proposed ridiculousness. (They've deleted me many times.)

I grew up on Hampton Road, my folks still live out there on that same property that was purchased by my great-grandparents in 1941. My 83 yr old grandfather also lives just of K-hwy in Los Ranchos, he moved there w/my grandmother when Kansas City bought his property that was located on Hampton Road just north of 152. My son and I also live in southern Platte county but no longer in the true area of concern (that's 5 generations and I'm not that unique to this particular part of Platte county).

The area that Mertz/Reese are threatening is the last "ruralesque" area in the Park Hill school district that allows for a wide range of home prices, from the lower $100s in Los Ranchos & Hidden Valley to property exceeding $1M if not $2M in Timber Ridge & Stonegate. The people that live in this area have stayed there for generations or moved there over the past few years for one reason and one reason only, the CURRENT atmosphere that it provides, that country feel in the R-5 school district; just far enough away from the congestion but close enough to allow easy access to the amenities that Platte county offers. ALL of that dies if Chapel Ridge, as proposed, is approved.

Unfortunately, I will likely not be able to be at the meeting although I will try my damnedest. I keep seeing the opposition tout how they're lifelong residents of Platte county, I hope that someone asks them just where in relation to the proposed subdivision that they reside. Platte county is 427 square miles, that's a lot of county that won't be affected by Chapel Ridge. I guarantee that wherever these developers currently live, it's no where near the area of concern and I can vouch that neither one of them grew up there, Tabb was a year or two behind me in school and Brian lived on the north side of Barry Road just west of the bridge that went over the creek adjacent to Weatherby Lake.

The Commissioners' job is to represent the individuals that put them in office. If this is approved, they have failed to do their job and it will be a colossal disservice to the taxpayers that appreciate this area not to mention those that will be left living there.

  5. We've lived in S. Platte for over 25 years. When we built our house, 64th Street was still two lanes and Riss Lake was still a pond without any homes on it. We would have never imagined that all of this development would come along, especially the congestion at 64th and I-29 but come along it has and we've learned to live with it. I would imagine that the people living in the older subdivision next to our new development felt the same way you do when they proposed building our new homes. Did it increase traffic past their homes? You bet it did and when they added on to our subdivision a few years later, it increased our traffic too. Change happens and sometimes it's best to embrace it. It's not as if they were building a prison, a strip club or a firing range in your backyard. Why not work with the developer to ensure that the development does its best to meet your requirements? Now's the time to get what you want.
